sport unites men
Saturday 17th August
South Place Hotel, Moorgate
Our latest event was a fantastic opportunity for a group of guys, all serious about building mental strength and resilience, to get together and to learn from others who have a story to tell and advice to offer to us all.
On Saturday 17th August we returned to the wonderful South Place Hotel, near Moorgate, in London for another full-day event.
Was there a theme, we hear you ask? Well, we love sport here at the Whole Man Academy. Sport has the ability to both unite and divide us, impassion and frustrate, make us jump for joy or burst into tears, sometimes all just a few minutes apart. This time the Whole Man Academy asked what we could learn from men in sport. What does it take to get to the top? And, more importantly, what can we do when things aren’t going so well and we need to really dig deep.
We heard from Simon Mundie, host of BBC Radio 4 podcast ‘Don’t Tell Me The Score,’ joins us. Simon interviews men and women from the world of sport and asks, “What can sporting success teach us about ordinary life?” We also had an incredible talk from one of the UK’s leading Mental Performance Coaches, Andrew Cohen-Wray. We were delighted that Professional Football Referee Ryan Atkin also took time out to speak to the room full of 25 guys. In August 2017 Ryan came out publicly as a gay man, making him the only out gay man in professional football on the pitch.
The Whole Man Academy holds events designed specifically for men as well as sessions where all those who want to help and support men are more than welcome. We are always looking for cool, interesting and inspiring venues.
